Regardless of what others may have to say about the guy, I am on record here as saying that I am a fan of Dave Matthews. I also enjoy much of Ben Harper’s work, especially his record from earlier this year with The Relentless7. I am also a fan of concerts and of movies as well.

Well, good news for me and others like me. From December 11 – 17, Larger Than Life in 3D will be playing in theaters across the country. The film features concert footage from not only select Matthews’ and Harper’s 2009 performances (I believe clips from this year’s ACL Fest will be prominent), but Gogol Bordello will also be featured. Want tickets? Want a T-Shirt from the event? Be the first to email me (kelly@thegobblersknob.com), and a pass for two and a swanky t-shirt will be all yours!

Sometimes, even if you aren’t completely “into” a certain sound or genre, you find yourself floored by a certain artists that reside in one of those genres. I’m sure I’m not the only one. That said, I cant say I am a big follower of the Gospel scene, by any stretch. Much like other genre’s that I have been slow to dive into such as Bluegrass and Western Swing, I have enjoyed it thoroughly when I witnessed a live performance, but in the case of Gospel music, I haven’t ever been compelled to dig much deeper past the random, occasional experience.

The Blind Boys of Alabama (Official / Myspace) may change that aversion of mine. After reading Shawn from Twangville’s review of their new album Duets, which features collaborations with Ben Harper, Susan Tedeschi, Lou Reed, Randy Travis, Timothy B. Schmidt and a host of others, and then giving the track below a listen, you may feel the same way. This is more music for the soul, than what many people refer to as “soul” music.

LISTEN: Blind Boys of Alabama w/Toots Hibbert- “Perfect Peace”
