As you may have read yesterday here, one of the highlights for me from this year’s SXSW was seeing Canada’s Besnard Lakes perform at Stubb’s. I had already been rocking their new record, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night, but had yet to enjoy them live. They didnt dissapoint. Here is a clip from their Jimmy Fallon appearance from earlier this week. O.K., now. I am about to hop into my car and head south to Austin for SXSW. Won’t be much on The Ol’ Knob for a few days, but please feel free to follow my tweets for a few updates here and there. Hopefully, I wont have too many phone issues that will keep me from tweeting regularly. Here’s another band you can catch at SXSW this year…

If you haven’t caught The Legendary Shackshakers live before, then you really need to pencil it into your schedule one day soon. Their nasty mix of sweat, blues, punk, snot and guitar noise is an insanely intoxicating good time. Oh, and guess what? You can catch what they got at SXSW, imagine that?!?!?

Their new album, “Agri-dustrial”, comes out in April, but you dont have to wait until then to get a taste. Get to clickin’…

• Go to This Mornin’, I’m Born Again for a couple of tunes from a sweet new Austin band, The Happen-Ins. The track, “You’ve Been Bad” is a soulful retro-rock number that contains a pretty righteous groove. Also, look for these folks at SXSW, naturally.

Sorry, hate to be one of those bloggers who wont stop going on and on about the bands that will be playing at SXSW this year. I have historically ignored other blogs for the entire month of March, due to my sorrow over not going to SXSW in years past but not this year, hope you dont mind too much. In fact, I’ll let you peek behind the curtain a bit; it’s kind of nice to blog about some bands that I just simply like, versus trying to keep up with new releases and items that have some sort of time-sensitive issues to handle. Thanks for indulging me.

San Francisco’s Sonny & The Sunsets (Myspace / Official) will be playing all kinds of showcases and parties when they trek down to Austin. This track from Sonny Smith’s catalog (below) can be heard on a new compilation, In A Cloud SF, from Secret Seven, even though he does have 4 or 5 albums out (some are out of print at this time). This track has a distinctive Cali-retro vibe that would be suited for any surf-intensive Beach party.
