As I mentioned a while back when Low’s C’Mon first came out, I am a late-comer to their party. I know the band hates the term “Slow-core,” but it doesn’t take a genius to hear why that term is probably as apt as any. Who cares? this is another great tune with a great video.

Hailing from San Francisco, dream-pop shoegazers moonbell have a sound that I haven’t been able to resist since first getting a hold of their new EP Figurine.

In fact, the title track is a classic take on the type of fuzzy, reverb-eriffic tunes that any fan of Jesus & Mary Chain will surely appreciate. The three-piece, consisting of Garen Ingleby, David Paslay and Lisa Colvin have only been together for a year or so, but this initial four song effort is a tripped-out keeper.

Not really sure what else to say about them. After a few spins of the album that will be available on September 20th, it’s clear these guys like their psychedelic 70′s rock with an updated, sharp-edged bite to it. A recent vinyl picture disc single, the oddly named And This Is Why I Speak To you In Parables, provided a glimpse into what the full-length would bring.

Aside from the musical side of this band’s art, the actual artwork is also remarkable. There aren’t enough bands out there placing the emphasis on the visual presentation of their music in this downloadable, disposable age. The artwork for the album and the previously released single is in a word: tripped-out (OK, two words).

There are many comparisons to made sonically. Eagles of Death Metal, The Sword and Mastadon are a few of them, but even those don’t really describe this album. There’s a fuzzed-out, and in many cases, melodic, component to White Orange that isn’t necessarily present in the work of those other, fine bands.

OK, I promised three womanly rockers to you earlier in the week, and I’m here to deliver the third. First, we had San Francisco’s dream-popperTamaryn. Next up, we had the kinda scary, really hot EMA, and today, we have The Joy Formidable.

OK, The group isn’t all female, in fact, they’re a trio out of London. But, they’re led by the distinctive vocal stylings of Ritzy Bryan, and that’s where I’m focusing, whether it’s politically correct, or even fair to do so.

The group’s latest album, The Big Roar is phenomenal and has sent many towards comparisons to their fellow, English shoegaze rockers, My Bloody Valentine. Sure, the similarities are there, but this group is a bit more accessible and a tad less reverb-y than the eardrum splitting trail-blazers they’re so often compared to.
