It’s Hard to be Humble When You’re Phosphorescent.

I’ve been very clear in the past regarding my feelings for the music of Matthew Houck, aka, Phosphorescent (Official /Myspace). His 2009 LP To Willie was a very close second in my year-end list and it really might be the top favorite when I look back on 2009 a few years from now to see what I am still digging consistently from that year.

Phosphorescent’s new Dead Oceans release, Here’s To Taking It Easy, is a gem, but this time, it’s full of Houck originals, and not Willie Nelson classics. In fact, there are a few 1970′s flavored country burners on here that would’ve fit nicely onto that collection, but are perfectly at home here, none the less.

The opening track, “It’s Hard to Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)” features some killer horns and an even more killer slide guitar. This track absolutely boogies as it winks at all the ladies staring at it from the edges of the dusty dance floor.

LISTEN: Phosphorescent – “It’s Hard To Be Humble (When You’re From Alabama)
