I promise that I am not purposely extending Texas week for another week. That said, there will still be plenty of good stuff coming from the Lone Star State, so there. In case you haven’t heard by now, Midlake’s (Official / Myspace) new album, The Courage of Others (Bella Union) will be released on February 2nd. This is very good news. Their previous album, 2006′s The Trials of Van Occupanther sent the group from Denton, TX from well-kept indie secret into international indie-stardom. In fact, their upcoming European tour has many sold-out dates already, and Rolling Stone named their 70′s folk rock gem “Roscoe” as the 90th best song of the past decade.
After one listen to their last album, it’s easy to see why so many people place comparisons to Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne onto them. One thing though, these guys are better. Yeah, I said it. The new album may see the guys spreading their wings a tad, as it has been reported that their British Folk influences will show themselves prominently on the new album. After hearing the track below, I can see that for sure.

I picked up a 12″ Single a couple of weeks ago featuring two tracks from the album including the one featured here and the title track, sounds wonderful – really looking forward to the albums release.
yeah, i have been spinning van occupanther like crazy recently, making me that much more excited for the new one. They are opening for Flaming Lips in Denton in March for a free show during NX35, so I am really pumped for that…
