Brandi Carlile – “Looking Out”

Good news for Brandi Carlile (Official / Myspace) fans. If you liked her previous album, The Story (I did), you’re going to really dig her new full-length record, Give Up the Ghost (Colombia). It’s more of her excellent blend of folk, rock and country mixed with her strong and elegantly raw vocals.

The big hit from her last album, the title track, is a fantastic song and I was a tad nervous that the new album may fail to showcase any individual tracks that stood out as well as “The Story” did. that apprehension was eased after the opening track, however. The rocking “Looking Out” gets the album off to a rollicking and propulsive start indeed. As a whole, the album is filled with pleasing tunes and never gave me the chance to suffer any letdown after the initial high of the stellar first track.
