A friend of mine recently remarked that Labor Day is cool in the sense that many of us get a day off from work or school, but otherwise, it’s kind of lame. He continued to explain that it’s lame to celebrate that many of us work while our country doesn’t celebrate many other worthy causes with similar enthusiasm. I have a hard time arguing with that, really. In that spirit, I want to flash back to when I first stopped to truly listen to the words of Jason Isbell’s “Dress Blues”. I caught Isbell at theRed Dirt Round-Up yesterday and while he didn’t play this song, it’s still top of mind when I think of Isbell’s best songs. I figure Memorial Day and Veterans Day isn’t enough, so I’ll make Labor Day another day to honor the troops that have fought for our freedoms and for the troops that are currently fighting for freedom all over the world. Republican, Democrat or indifferent, this song should hit you pretty hard…
