Biting Other Blogs: Malcolm Holcombe
22 September 2009 in Biting Other Blogs, Blogroll, Music, Old School, Random, blah blah blah
Biting Other Blogs is an occasionally occurring feature that will direct your attention to a specific blog post or two that, most likely, I wish I had posted myself. Giving credit where credit is due, I typically wont blab too much, except to encourage you to get up on whatever blog I am highlighting…
Sometimes terms such as country, folk or blues just don’t quite get the job done when trying to describe the sound of an artist or their album. That is definitely the case when trying to discuss Malcolm Holcombe and his fantastic new album, For The Mission Baby (Echo Mountain). As I listened to it for the umpteenth time, I kept thinking the sound I was hearing was some form of Dirty Country. I really mean that in the best way possible. It’s the kind of gritty that really sticks to your consciousness when you listen. It’s lack of gloss makes it impossible to listen and move on quickly without remembering it. Holcombe is anything but a novice. He has released several albums that have been regarded rather well. It came as no shock that many of my favorite blogs and sites had a few words to say about the new album…
- Hero Hill is a big fan of Holcombe and this CD doesnt dissapoint…
