Greg Laswell GIVE-AWAY!!!

Greg wants to see YOU at his Dallas show...

Greg wants to see YOU at his Dallas show...

If you aren’t knowingly familiar with the fine work of Greg Laswell, you are likely to be more familiar with him than you are aware (I think that makes sense). Laswell has been crafting strong singer/songwriter pop for some time now. Laswell’s tunes have been the backdrop to many a dramatic scene in television shows such as True Blood and Grey’s Anatomy, not to mention several current hits in your local movie theater. While I have historically steered clear of many of the “Mom’s Mini-Van” artists that seem to flood such prime-time drama’s, there isn’t any mistaking that Laswell’s work reaches well below the surface-sheen of other throw away acts that typically craft purposely manipulative scores for such dramatic effect.

His recently relased album, Three Flights From Alto Nido (Vanguard Records) is yet another pristine collection of gems. Tunes such as “That it Moves” and “The One I Love” are straight-forward in their simplicity and sincerity. With vocals that remind me of another solid singer/songwriter who runs in certain pop circles, Mat Kearney, Laswell’s voice seems to create the mood for each song, often using a somber tone to convey  the vibe.

Vanguard Records has been kind enough to offer Gobblers Knob readers a chance to win tickets to Laswell’s upcoming Dallas gig at The Prophet Bar  on July 8th as well as a copy of the Three Flights From Alto Nido compact disc. Even if you live outside of the DFW area and can’t go to the show, enter and you’ll still win the compact disc, perhaps.

All you have to do to win both of these prized items is to leave a comment below by 3pm on July 7th. Be sure to include a valid email address when asked, as I’ll need that info, but of course, wont give it out to anyone…promise.

Greg Laswell is one of my all-time favorite songwriters these days. The music is moving and the lyrics are amazing. He is definitely one of those artists that you need to sit down and close your eyes and just let the music wash over you.
