DC-9 in Space is Taking Off…

22 July 2009 in Local Music (D/FW), Music, Random, Texas Music, Video, You Tube, blah blah blah, live gigs

I have been up-front in my appreciation for the work of many of North Texas’ great music media outlets. A recent development that has really been getting better by the week is the Dallas Observer’s DC-9 in Space Series. The Observer’s Music Editor, Pete Freedman, does a solid job of getting the artist to drop their guard and, oftentimes, be as vulnerable during the interview portion as they are through their own songs.

Many of the great talents that call this area home have been highlighted, as well as a couple that aren’t exactly local, but happen to be rolling through town. This isn’t your standard videotaped performance, however. Each of the performances and interviews take place in and/or around Hal Sample’s SPACE studio’s in Deep Ellum, near Downtown Dallas, and showcase a pretty high production value, in my opinion. We’ve seen hip-hop, folk, roots, rock and mixtures of all of the above featured so far. Below are a couple of my favorite episodes, outside of this one I told you about a while back, which might still be the top of the heap for me.
