Dale Watson, ’nuff said
7 April 2009 in Music, Old School, Random, Texas Music, blah blah blah
If you aren’t familiar with Dale Watson, shame on you. He is a Texas hero and is simply one of the greats. His new album, The Truckin’ Sessions Volume 2 (Hyena Records) comes out April 21, and it is just plain awesome. These days when people think “Country“, they think of cows or ranches or cheesy pop-rock with bad highlights (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, I’m looking at you!). Dale Watson, however, hasn’t forgot about the trucker (Hey, Smokey & the Bandit was pure country as far as I’m concerned). Songs that have a timeless feel without being retro or outdated are the disc’s hallmark. My personal favorite is “Truck Stop in Lagrange”, thanks to its mention of a “damn good cup of coffee and a mighty mighty fine kolache“. No one else would’ve been able to pull off that line and sound legit, but man Watson does.
