There are many great spot to catch excellent bands in the DFW area. The venue that creates the best line-ups in town, however, is the Granada Theater. Never satisfied with bringing one act to town, the Granada regularly boasts 2-3 artists that make it impossible for you to show up late and even dream of a decent spot, thanks to the quality of the opening acts.
This past week Chris Knight played along with Back Porch Mary and Mo Robson Band, creating a stellar night of rocking country from acts that would typically headline their own shows at many area clubs or honky-tonks. Upcoming concerts of note have talent like Jason Isbell, Centro-matic, Brandi Carlile, Micky & the Motorcars, Wade Bowen, Gaslight Anthem, Slaid Cleeves, Old Crow Medicine Show, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and the drool-worthy, Jenny Lewis headlining (the Heartless Bastards are opening up for the Gaslight and Lewis shows, by the way).
The gig coming up soon that has the Knob in a bit of a twitter is the Ryan Bingham show on 4/26. Getting ready for the release of Road House Sun, which is awesome and builds on Mescalito’s more rock driven tunes, Bingham will be playing the Granada with Pennsylvania’s The Rustlanders and Dallas’ new kings of the Honky-Tonk, The King Bucks (featuring members of Sorta and the Drams).
It looks like tickets are going fast for this gig, so get to it. For you out-of-towners, make The Granada Theater a possible destination point as you make plans for any trip to Texas, and especially, The Big D.
