Dan's Silverleaf in Denton, TX will be a hotbed of musical goodness during NX35 this weekend...
Very cool news to report. I’ll be helping out The Dallas Observer with coverage for the inaugural NX35 Conferette in Denton beginning tonight, Thursday the 12th. You’ll be able to catch the work of many of the Observer’s staff writers along with my thoughts on tons of shows throughout the weekend on their music blog, DC-9 at Night.
As I said last week, there are tons of great bands to suit almost any specific need. Tonight’s opening night looks pretty good with The Heelers, James McMurtry and Sabra Laval hitting the various Denton stages tonight. I’ll send some twitter updates and post pics that I take, but for the most part, I’ll just direct your attention to DC-9 for my thoughts on sets throughout the weeknd from the likes of McMurtry, Doug Burr, Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, The Drams, Dust Congress, Laura Gibson, The Low Anthem, Possessed by Paul James, Pinebox Serenade and many others….

I’ve heard of Gobblers Knob but don’t know what it means. Heard of it through DBT Jen’s blog, I think.
It’s funny that few people have ever actually asked. Many people assume it has some innuendo filled meaning, but it doesnt and it couldnt be further from the truth.
Back in 2007, some buds and I were heading out to the Larry Joe Taylor festival in Stephenville, TX. As we waited in a massively long line to drive into the camping area, we noticed a gate to the side of the road that had a sign that read, “Gobblers Knob Ranch”. we all thought that was funny and moved along. Upon enjoying myself at the festival and seeing the amazing turnout and reaction to the bill that was made up of 100% Texas acts (basically), I wanted to get more involved and help spread the word about the bands I loved the most. I decided to start a blog and one of the buds that was with me that weekend reminded me of the Gobblers Knob Ranch that we had seen and suggested that for a name….TAH DAH!!!!!
