Rockin' in the free world: Jennings and Johnson.
In keeping with my somewhat mainstream theme of yesterday, I want to point you in the direction of something really cool. I mentioned Jamey Johnson yesterday and just in case you hadn’t heard, he starred in an episode of CMT’s Crossroads with none other than Shooter Jennings himself. That’s an awesome combo, and frankly, I’m shocked that CMT came up with the idea and that it actually made it to air.
Shooter is following up this gold with the release of Black Magick: The Best of Shooter Jennings and the .357′s (Colombia). I guess since it’s only called ”Best of” instead of “Greatest hits“, I’ll let it slide, since this collection indeed represents my favorite tracks of Shooter’s (and that Shooter has only had 3 studio albums). I dig the harmony vocals on “Slow Train”, from The Wolf, that the larger-than-life Oak Ridge Boys provide as well as the gem, “Southern Comfort” from his debut album. This is a pretty good starter kit for the new Shooter fan in your life.
