The new Springsteen album, Working on a Dream, is out and after a couple of listens, I find myself digging it more than his previous release, Magic. Even though this is a rock record and was recorded with the E-Street Band in tow, it is the quieter, acoustic song entitled “The Wrestler” that Bruce recorded for the movie, The Wrestler, that leaves me hitting the repeat button the most. Bruce and acoustic “movie songs” seem to go together better than a Saturday afternoon alone with a full load ofbacked up tivo to watch (see “Philadelphia”, “Secret Garden” and “Dead Man Walking”). The Boss is like Kenny Loggins from the 80′s but doesnt suck and doesnt seem to concern himself with anyones Danger-Zones.
Check out this video to see how Springsteen became involved with The Wrestler, and listen in the background for the song he wrote and recorded for the film.

Additional note on “The Wrestler”… Great guys (and grossly-underappreciated local roots rock outfit) Macon Greyson’s song “Blacklight” is in the movie. Haven’t seen the movie yet, but Buddy (Huffman, singer) says that it’s in a pivotal scene where Mickey Rourke and Marissa Tomei are in a bar… the song is playing on the jukebox in the background. No word yet on a soundtrack.
