More Best of 2008…
3 January 2009 in blah blah blah
Seeing Reckless Kelly rock Gruene Hall in August was pretty awesome.
I know we are past the New Year, but what the hey? Anyone can do an end of year list at the uh…end of the year. There were some pretty cool things go down that made this year great….
The year got off to a great start thanks to the intimate, acoustic Kathleen Edwards show in Dallas…aaahhhhh.
In a rare departure from blogging about music, I wanted to let people know about one of the better films I had seen in quite some time.
Staying at The Austin Motel, eating chili, and catching Jon Dee Graham live is never a bad way to spend a Wednesday night.
Are you cheap like me? Do you like great music on a sunny patio like me? Do you have a bit of a crush on Sarah Borges like me? Then the free “day parties” of SXSW are just the ticket…
I had a blast as I helped celebrate the greatness of the independent record store on National Record Store Day.
Easily one of the top highlights of the year for me was getting to see the Avett Brothers live.
One of the bigger “Dallas Music” related items of the year was the release of the fantastic new record from our Hometown Heroes, the Old 97’s.
During my first real vacation in 5 years, I was able to squeeze in some music talk…
Celebrating not only July 4th, but a rare “Parent’s Night Out”, my wife developed a new crush of her own at the Jackson Taylor gig at Hank’s in McKinney, TX.

Middle of October and outdoors in Downtown Dallas. A great place for me and my son (front and center) to see the greatness of a live Drams show.
Getting stuck at an airport isn’t always so bad…
My first trip to Music City allowed me to see some great music and hang with a couple of great writers.
I was able to see some all-time faves and find some new faves at this year’s ACL Festival in September.
I can’t say it enough. The North Texas region has more and more talent emerging than most people care to know about. Soon, those folks will likely not have a choice though.
Along with writing for Twangville.com, one of the coolest things and greatest honors for me this year has been the opportunity to host The 9513 Country Music Podcast.
Anytime is a good time for some new Doug Burr!
Peace out 2008, it’s been real….

Nice list of highlights. I particularly like the one about your Austin trip since I get name checked.
I figured you liked that. It’s kinda weird to look back and see all that happened. I feel like the Autin trip(s) happened a lot longer ago than that…ahh how time flies….
It does seem like a lot longer, especially with the rocky times we’ve faced since then–like you professing your allegiance to Jerry Jeff’s version of “LA Freeway” over Guy Clark’s. Yea, I went there.
Hey, that was tough, for sure, but lets not forget how you and your group bolted at sxsw, which surely hurt my sons feelings as much as it did sarah borges’….
Hah. Let’s not drag the kids into this, besides, the only thing your son cared about that day was his dirty drumstick.
