The 9513 Country Music Podcast – Episode 002: Diamonds & Beer
13 November 2008 in 9513.Com Podcasts, Events, Interviews, blah blah blah, live gigsThis episode features two interviews with artists from very differnt corners of Country Music. I was, however, able to find a common thread among the seemingly opposite performers. Both artists seemed to not concern themselves with the labels that fans and writers often use to describe their sound, and even shared a bit of frustration with me on what it’s like to try to navigate the waters of such classifications that have been put on them and their music.
These artists also share the fact that they aren’t confined to a single, easily defined style or nature. Sarah Borges teeters between the worlds of Rock and Country, while Trent Willmon straddles the geographical and ideological borders of Texas and Nashville. I came away from these visits with a better appreciation for a genre that has such firm roots and allows those roots to grow and form such interesting and exciting branches.
