Jason Isbell – Dress Blues (Live)

I have heard this song before, it isn’t new. I have heard many people talk about how it may be the most thoughtful, poignant song written about the current conflict overseas also.  I guess I just hadn’t truly paid as close of attention as I should’ve until this past weekend.  I watched this video of Jason Isbell performing “Dress Blues” as I was thinking about heading to the Isbell/Drams/Macon Greyson show (I didn’t go, it started too late for a father on a school night).  As I watched and more importantly, listened, to the performance, I couldn’t help but be moved by the imagery and the story of the soldier that Isbell says is based on someone he once knew. Powerful song, regardless of where you stand on the issue of U.S. occupation in Iraq.
