Some Real Randomness….

“Once” The Movie. No pirates, ogres, almighty’s or superheroes…promise
I have some random things that came to me this past weekend and I feel compelled to share them with you, my sweet, dirty reader:
- Please go see the movie “Once.” It’s amazing and it’s about music and it isn’t about a sitcom star building a boat for a bunch of animals and being really lame in the process.
- Smokey and The Bandit was and STILL IS a funny movie! I haven’t watched it in years, but I’ll be darned if I didn’t laugh like it was 1984 all over again. It’s hard to be much cooler than a mid-eighties Burt Reynolds. It also has a great country soundtrack with the classic Jerry Reed song “East Bound and Down” serving as the movie’s theme song.
- When you get your oil changed, isn’t it amazing that your car needs so many filters, belts, flushes, washes, wipers, fuzzy dice, etc..? I am amazed that my truck somehow made it out of the parking lot after I declined to get anything above and beyond the oil change itself! It’s a silly game we as the consumer now play with the service tech working on our cars. We sit there and read our magazine, and then act suprised when the tech comes to us or calls out our car model to tell us what we are in dire need of and how that it just so happens that my specific model of vehicle is due for a tune-up this specific week (yes, that is lucky!!). We then continue the game play as we actually try and make the face that will present the visual of us actually giving it serious thought. Hell, some of us actually ask questions about the suggested procedure, and only then provide the contorted “I hope this looks like real thought” (picture bitter beer face) expression. After we get them to go back out to the garage carrying our perfectly white air-filter, our car is ready minutes later (how can that be, my car was only a radiator flush away from death a moment ago?). What a price to pay for convenience. In the past, we would just have to say no to the extra 10 ounces of soda for an extra quarter at the movie theater, now we must to fight tooth and nail to leave the quick lube with our pockets containing at least some of the money we arrived with.
- Guitar Hero II is awesome!! I got to play it for the first time with family this weekend, and if for no other reason, it is fun to hear 6 year olds singing “Carry On My Wayward Son,” and people that don’t typically like rock music jam to “Heart Shaped Box” and “Monkey Wrench.“
Well, that’s just a few things…I hope you kids have a nice night!!!

[...] ACL Festival Line-up!!! April 15, 2008, 11:22 am Filed under: blah blah blah Every year the day that the ACL Fest line-up is announced is like Christmas morning for me. This year, Santa brought a really great present. Highlights for me are Foo Fighters, Drive by Truckers, Neko Case, John Fogerty, Robert Plant w/ Allison Krauss, Sunny Sweeney, Iron & Wine, Kevin Fowler, Jakob Dylan, Ryan Bingham, Shooter Jennings, and to round it all off, two bands that I have babbled about a lot recently; Band of Horses and The Swell Season (the guy and girl from Once the movie).
