Thursday Night Fights

24 May 2007 in live gigs

the-backsliders.jpgI touched on this last weekThursday is the new Friday, just like self administered colonics are the new bran (I know I’m not the only one), 40 is the new 30 (if your 50 that’s just 50, sorry, it’s science).  Hear me out before you take a look at your calender and cuss me for my lack of “accuracy” or understanding of how a 7 day “week” works.  This Thursday night is another big night for both local and regional music in the area.  Instead of providing you with a calender, I’ll give you my 2 highlights.  One is for the folks who want to hang around the North Dallas area and not cross over the Mason-Dixon of North Texas (635 LBJ Freeway), and the other is for such folks who find it too taxing on their vehicles to hike up 75 past Mockingbird.  In Plano at what once must’ve been the Garden of Eden, we have an acoustic “song-swap” between up and comer Drew Kennedy, who should be much more widely known than he is, and Peter Dawson, who has spent time in both Texas and Nashville and put on one of the best shows I have ever seen at Love & War.  I would catch this one while you can at Love & War because Kennedy has ” The Next Charlie Robison” written all over him.  Down South, we have one of the more unique and generally cool events for local music this year.  The premier of “The Backsliders – Live at The Double Wide” will be held at the Inwood Theater at 8pm, and guess what, it’s free (man, I LOVE that!!!).  The Backsliders are a great band that successfully blends Country, Soul, Rock with a hot lead singer, Kim Pendleton.  There is an after party at the location of the movie where multiple bands will pay homage to the DVD’s release.  I’ll check back in with you guys later and let you know what’s going on this weekend.  I’ll be gone, but I’ll make sure ya’ll are taken care of, promise!
