I know this may sound crazy and I am obviously running the risk of insulting my thousands and thousands of loyal readers, but…I actually like various kinds of music that aren’t all that country (take deep breaths, think about bunnies, rainbows and other happy-furry-colorful things). In the next few weeks, there are many chances to see some big name bands come to town, again, that aren’t country, but owe much of their sound to the country greats of the Outlaw movement from the 60’s and 70’s. This weekend In Addison, Los Lonely Boys and Blues Traveler display their blends of soul, rock, blues (soul and blues, along with gospel merged together to form country, just listen to Jimmie Rodgers, or Hank I). Blues Traveler boasts a lead singer who revolutionized how the harmonica is played AND how us normal folks can more effectively hide our military style personal arsenal in our vehicles (now it may not be his sound that is country, but is that so far off from some of the more recent behavior involving some of country music’s current Mt. Rushmore heads?). Heck, The Los Lonely Boys owe their careers to Willie, after he discovered them and took them out on the road with him, where they must have narrowly escaped arrest many a time. So come on, we’ll eat, shoot some semi-automatic weapons, listen to some great jams, and forget the fact that we’re not at this oh-so live and oh-so local, yet sold-out show.
