As I browse around in the Observer, the DMN Weekend Guide, Fine Line Live, or any number of bands websites, I see more and more chances to see my favorite bands for free. In fact, its hard to keep it straight most of the time. Adairs has bands every night of the freakin’ week for free (but bring a few bucks for the tip jar and awesome burgers), 8.0 in Ft. Worth has a Wednesday night series devoted to the states biggest names (get there early to catch an up and coming band at 530 & 7pm, before the headliner). Starting this week, on Thursday, The Glass Cactus in G-vinewill host bands for free also (Roger Creager kicks it off this week). Add all of this on to the free Saturday in-stores at Bills and the frequently scheduled free in stores here (this one even has free beer most of the time), and you have a full week filled with free music from established stars, as well as bands that deserve to be (like my new harmonica/Queen Tribute ensemble, “We Will Harp You”, live and free of charge in the game room of Shady Acres Retirement Home (right before the residents weekly trip to Wal-Mart and Luby’s).
