Something to Think About Ya’ll

30 April 2007 in blah blah blah

One of the main goals for my time in the blogosphere is to help turn people on to bands and music that they either are not aware of currently, or to turn someone on to something that they would’ve never guessed they COULD be turned on to.  This article goes a long way in stealing some of my thunder and making a great point.  I do not share his opinion on Jack Ingram and Pat Green, as he claims they are not truly a part of the Texas Vibe anymore, but he hits it out of the park when it comes to thoughts on new up and coming artists in Texas.  What’s not discussed in “Brad’s Corner” is a growing trend of new bands calling themselves “Texas Country” and as a result, constantly bashing Nashville.  While the product from Music Row is all too often poppy, slick, adult contemporary, there are many great artists from Texas (Ingram, Green, The Greencards, Peter Dawson) making music there also.  Places like Roberts Western World, Tootsies Orchid Lounge and especially here, help make Nashville an awesome place to visit when it’s time to take a Honky Tonk tour of the US.

  1. The newer”Texas Country” artists have Pat Green and Jack Ingram to thank for the door even being open for them as Robert Earl and others opened it for them. Nashville shouldn’t be the enemy, it’s apples and oranges to Texas. The enemy should be The Man, Posers, O’Douls drinkers and Urban Cowboys and the lyrics need to reflect the greatness of the region and its people and ways. These late comers to the scene need to bring their own voice to it not just retread from those who did it better and before them.
